Morgaine

Morgaine Bergman was born in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, an area that closely resembles, and shares many of the peculiarities and features of native Avalonian landscapes in the Isles and Western Europe. She is a Tibetan and Usui Reiki Master and Celtic Herbalist trained by Master Herbalist and Archdruid Gina McGarry, founder of Brighid's Academy of Healing Arts.

Morgaine studied Celtic Avalonianism with the Sisterhood of Avalon (SOA), where was served on the original Council of Nine and as one of the first Seminary mentors. She left SOA in 2001 to pursue a Calling reviving Avalon's root wisdoms (the pre/proto-Celtic native or "Faery" wisdoms of the Isles, Western Europe and beyond). She is the founder of Avalon Druid Order (ADO), a small, international membership Order offering a cyber community, learning circles, Groves, and distance learning in the skills of individual and collective self-empowerment. She remains an advisor and Elder of the ADO and lives with her life partner Myrddin in southwest Virginia, where they serve the Order as heads of Rhosyn Ddraig grove and the local community as Healers and Spiritual Midwives, tending the land and all that lives upon and within it.

Myrddin

"Myrddin" (GF Bergman) was born in southern California near an island called Avalon, which has been associated in recent literature with the Merlins of Britain. He trained as a "psychic operative" through Silva Mind Institute, graduating from their program (a watered down version of which remains on offer to the public). In addition to professional engagements as a psychic reader, Myrddin is a Tibetan and Usui Reiki Master and Celtic Herbalist trained by Master Herbalist and Archdruid Gina McGarry, founder of Brighid's Academy of Healing Arts. He is also a Master Mason (Scottish Rite) and served as High Priest of a Welsh Wiccan coven before "converting" to Avalonian Druidism in 2001.

Myrddin is the founder of the Druid Brotherhood of Iona, the men's branch of the mysteries within the Avalon Druid Order and partner to the Avalonian Order of Ninefold Sisterhoods (AONS), the women's mysteries branch founded by Morgaine in the early days of the Order. In addition to his duties to the Order he is on the board of directors for the Spiritual Science Mother Church, in which he is also an ordained a minister. He lives with his life partner Morgaine in southwest Virginia, where they serve the Order as heads of Rhosyn Ddraig grove and the local community as Healers and Spiritual Midwives, tending the land and all that lives upon and within it.

We are both deeply troubled by mainstream attitudes and practices that are putting our planet, and all the life it supports, in peril. We are angry that those in control of the world's resources (those with the most power to effect change) are invested in short-term profit at the expense of the planet's long-term ability to support life. We believe that certain man-made structures are responsible for blinding people to the real consequences of their actions, and numbing them to the suffering their choices are bringing on others in the name of profit. Yes, we are very angry, but it is not enough to be angry is all we do with that energy is to complain and sit passively hoping that someone else will spare us from suffering the consequences of our own actions (or inaction). We believe that we each have a moral imperative to do something ourselves, and to do it immediately.

We strongly believe that it is impossible, when humanity relies upon Nature for its survival, to have healthy people living in a poisoned environment. We all learn in grade school that we live in a 'closed system'; therefore, if the environment is poisoned, we will also be poisoned. We emphatically do not believe this poisoning is necessary or inevitable. We also learn in school that in order to survive a species must be able to adapt, and those species which adapt most quickly are most likely to survive. If we accept this scientific premise, then we must also accept that we each possess the power to effect change, for good or for ill, if we choose to use it. Thus, we are both passionate supporters of philosophies, technologies, and lifestyles that support harmonious, sustainable relationship with our planet and all the diverse life that it supports. These beliefs are integral to our spiritual beliefs and to the Sanctuary's healing philosophy and methodologies. They may also become a rallying point for others who share these beliefs and goals.

We urge you not to take our word for these things, but to make your own investigations and form your own opinions based upon your own deductions after considering all the evidence from multiple sources within a broad, geological-historical context. If, after exploring the truth for yourself, you find that you are in general agreement with us, and if you would like to become involved with trying to make this positive change a reality, then a good place to begin is by enrolling in Sanctuary coursework, because by doing so you begin effecting positive change immediately, within yourself.

We realise that our website is probably unlike anything you have come across through Wellness (or even Pagan) networks.
